Abstract
The concept of silence in Japan apparently differs from the West’s. Silence is disturbing for the Western people. However; due to the geographical and climate factors, silence became a must in Japanese society. Furthermore, the notion of silence took place from daily life to cultural area under the influence of Zen Buddhism. Silence, accepted as a virtue in Japan, is a peculiar part of Japanese culture.
