Abstract

Today, India is considered one of the largest democracies of the world with its more than one billion population. Until it got independence from the Great Britain, the people of India struggled against the colonials shoulder to shoulder regardless of their religions or ethnicities. The common point of them was that all were living in India with great loyalty to their lands and country. However, maybe the only case in the history, India both became independent and was partitioned as India and Pakistan on the same day. Although the Muslim community and Hindu people wrestled against the imperial power of British side by side, how they came to such a condition and how the country was divided is still one of the crucial points in the history of India. What was the agenda of Muslims, what was the thinking of them on partition and how did it evolve? In my paper, I will try to find answers and explanations to these questions in the historical context.

Keywords: India; Pakistan; Partition; Muslim League; Minority.
